PANDAS July Chairman’s Update / July Outdoor Club Meeting / Forthcoming Events

I hope everyone is keeping well and hopefully most of the lockdown rules / guidelines will be greatly reduced on 19th July, allowing us to return to some sort of normality.

For now, we will have to keep the field visit track & trace calendar until the rules change. Hopefully from 19th July onwards we will be able to dispense with it.

It will be a ‘No-Fly Day’ on Tuesday 6th July (Horse Race Event).

Club Meetings & November AGM
We plan to hold the July club meeting outside (like we did in June) down at the flying field (with a backup online ZOOM meeting in place in case the weather turns against us). The next club meeting is planned for Wednesday 7th July @ 1930 (please note the change of day due to horse race event in the park on the Tuesday) down at the field (click below for details).

We will look to return to the indoor meetings as soon as we can.

Hopefully, we should be able to hold a normal AGM this year in November.

I will have been chairman for 3 years by then. I took over when the club was going through a difficult time. I hope things have changed for the better in my 3 years at the helm. It is not an easy club to run. I find it very frustrating at times and it takes many hours of my time. If anyone aspires (not sure that is the right word) to take on the role, perhaps now is the time to think about it and ask myself or other committee members what it entails. The club needs active committee members who are regular flyers at the field and have the time and patience to perform the role.

Grass Cutting & Field Maintenance
The grass cutting and field maintenance is still work in process, but I think we are getting there. Thank you to committee member Graham Worfolk and 1 or 2 others for their work on this.

My goal of a bowling green main strip (may be not completely realistic)  may be some way off, but I think we are getting there.

For this year as members agreed, we will continue with the private contractor for the main strip and the council for the pits and outer area. At the end of the year, we will review where we are and members can decide what they want to do for next year (new contractor / continue as we are / council only – all options will open for discussion and the membership will decide).

BMFA Northern Area Flight Fest Event
We are hosting the BMFA Northern Area ‘Flight Fest Event’ at the field next weekend (10th & 11th July). The field is likely to be busy over this weekend. There is an outdoor SWAPMEET on the Sunday morning. Click below for full details:

Future Events
We have several other events coming up over the next couple of months including the PANDAS Electric Fly-In & Single Channel & Retro RC Event on Saturday 31st July & Sunday 1st August.

This is followed by 2 BMFA achievement scheme events, PANDAS fixed wing scale event and the control line carrier deck event.

As usual these events do not run themselves. If you can help at any of them, please let us know.
